I’m four months into a new position with a new employer. (Boy, am I cramping up!) Seriously, it’s a nice place and, more importantly, filled with some good peeps.
I’m attending a presentation later this evening after work and had about 45 minutes to burn. What to do? I invited some of the peeps to grab a pint.
The throes of trying to arrange the time, place, etc. aside, it turns out we’ve got about five of us. As far as I know, it’s a group that’s not hung out before, which is cool as heck to me.
See, getting together outside of work is, to me, the best way of creating a better situation at work. A drink with colleagues—any beverage with colleagues—is worthwhile. To quote Geddy Lee, “I can’t pretend a stranger is a long-awaited friend,” but conversation over a pint is a step in the right direction.
